Diamondback Bicycles Insight 2 Complete Hybrid Bike ReviewJuly, 2020

A hybrid bike can be a great choice for a number of reasons, thanks to the innovative design and the type of versatile riding options most models have to offer. Diamondback is one brand that’s known for their extensive line of top-selling hybrids. This company has been around for years, using their vast knowledge and expertise to produce moderately priced hybrid bikes that are designed to last.

Our Verdict: This is a fast, lightweight bike that will quickly get you where you want to go. It’s not recommended to cyclists who need a hybrid they can use for off-roading purposes. However, if you’re looking for a reliable, durable hybrid that can handle longer commutes, then look no further than the Insight 2. It comes with some nice upgrades compared to models produced by Diamondback in the past and considering the high quality components, we consider it a steal for the price. Overview and Features

Their latest model the Insight Two hybrid bike is an excellent example of what a hybrid bike should be.

Unlike their past model the Insight One, the Two offers some top of the line components, an even more comfortable riding experience, and a frame design that’s built for some serious speed.

It’s also priced more affordable than competing models, which makes it a great choice for any cyclist in need of a low-priced hybrid bike that won’t require very many upgrades.

When it comes to the bike’s features, we really have to hand it to Diamondback. The Insight Two has a lot to offer cyclists in search of a commuter bike or a bike they can depend on for recreational use or rides around town.

The bike’s frame is made out of butted 6061 aluminum coupled with an integrated aluminum alloy aero blade fork designed for improved stability and strength.

The 700c Kenda Kwick Trax tires are high-performance and designed for both off-road and cultivated terrain riding.

The tires come in at thirty-two millimeters thick. The width of the tires allows you to tackle a wider range of terrains, easily. The double-walled stainless-steel rims are designed for improved stability as you handle wet streets and unpaved roads.

The bike also comes with mechanical disc brakes that are made out of aluminum alloy for top of the line stopping power.

This model comes with a Shimano crankset and chainguard, and the popular Easy Fire Shimano eight-speed shifters.

Even the stock saddle is pretty impressive and won’t require an upgrade. The gel-top saddle is designed to keep the cyclist comfortable during a longer commute.

Whether your route consists of flat terrain, unpaved roads, or hills, you’ll be able to choose from twenty-one speeds, so you can easily power up a hill or enjoy smooth downhill riding.

The Insight Two weighs in at twenty-seven pounds, which is pretty light for a hybrid that’s fully loaded.

This model comes with some great features that we were surprised to find on a hybrid bike in this price range. Ultimately, you’ll have a fast hybrid bike that offers great stopping power and traction, which makes it the ideal choice if you’re in need of a bike that can handle daily commuting back and forth to and from work.

What You’ll Love About the Insight Two

Since the bike is made out of a lightweight aluminum, you’ll find that it’s easier to power through long commutes without easily becoming fatigued like you would with a mountain bike.

Aside from the bike’s lightweight design, it also comes with some great top of the line tires which really add to the bike’s overall performance. Since it doesn’t offer the type of rugged design needed for off-roading, you’ll need to stick to cultivated terrain. However, the tire’s excellent traction and improved gripability compared to other city bike style hybrids, clearly make this model a winner in our book.

You can’t expect to take the Insight 2 for challenging off-road riding in the backcountry, but it able to handle gravel and dirt roads fairly well.

Gel-Topped Saddle

The gel-topped saddle is a big plus for any cyclist who has ever ridden a standard stock saddle. In fact, most cyclists will automatically remove the stock saddle and upgrade to a gel-topped model before they even take their bike out for a spin. So, it comes as a surprise that Diamondback included a pricey saddle in this package. It’s this type of extra touch that made us fall in love with the Insight 2 and all the great accessories and features it has to offer.

Versatile Riding

[ichcpt id=”106″]

The bike itself can be best described as versatile. While we wouldn’t recommend taking it for a challenging off-road ride where a mountain bike would probably be a better choice, the Insight Two can definitely hold its own for moderate off-road riding. The wheels are built tough and the thick tread design makes them perfect for riding around on rainy days or doing a little off-roading. Again, tires are another component most cyclists opt to upgrade right away, but these stock tires are pretty impressive and can definitely get you where you need to go.

While it can handle some off-road riding, it also does well with rides around town and navigating busy city streets. This bike can hug tight corners, stop short, and weave in and out of traffic like a champ.

Size Options

The bike is available in four size options for riders that are five feet four inches up to cyclists that are six feet, five inches. So, you’ll be able to choose the exact type of frame size that will give you the most control on the road.

Assembly

The assembly process is very easy and will only take about twenty minutes. You won’t have to worry about fine-tuning any of the components since this bike is almost ready to ride right out of the box.  Simply attach the handlebars, seat, and wheels and you’ll be ready to go.

Comfort

Combined with the adjustable flat handlebars and the gel-topped seat, the bike’s ergonomic design allows cyclists to ride in total comfort. Additionally, the bike’s lightweight frame makes taking this beast up a steep hill less stressful on the body, especially the knees. The lighter frame also makes it possible to take the bike on longer commutes without quickly causing rider fatigue like a heavy mountain bike would.

On smooth, paved streets the bike handles like a dream, but it can struggle if you take it on a rocky bike trail. This model features a road bike design that’s all about precision and speed.

Performance

Unfortunately, no bike is perfect and the Insight Two is no exception. One of the main issues with the bike is its lack of shock absorption, which is why we don’t recommend it for serious off-road riding. The Insight Two is more hybrid bike vs road bike, although it does have both road and mountain bike characteristics it doesn’t favor one more than the other. The style it possesses is a delicate balance between the two, so you’ll enjoy some versatility, but also certain limitations.  If you’re looking for an affordable hybrid that can ride like a mountain bike, take a look at the Schwinn Discover hybrid bike, which is available at a comparable price.

Another issue involves the pedals. They have a cheap feel to them and are made out of plastic. The pedals are usually a common component cyclists upgrade, so swapping these pedals out isn’t a big deal and by no means an expensive upgrade.

Additionally, the tire spokes tend to loosen up over time, so pay close attention to this and tighten the spokes as needed, especially right before you head out for a long ride.

There have been some reports that the gears can stick at times, making shifting gears a big problem. If you have issues with changing gears or the gear system doesn’t respond at all we recommend contacting customer support. Additionally, you can also take your bike to your local bike shop and have a pro help you troubleshoot the issue. Fortunately, this isn’t a common problem.
