Tommaso La Forma Lightweight Aluminum Hybrid Bike ReviewNovember, 2020

Tommaso is a leading brand that’s been around for years. Cyclists are familiar with the type of quality this manufacturer offers, which is why the La Forma quickly became one of the most popular hybrids on the market. The La Forma by Tommaso features a lightweight aluminum frame that includes an HCT carbon fork that allows you to ride this hybrid bike over rough terrain with ease. This model comes with all the bells and whistles the cyclist searching for a hybrid that’s commuter-worthy will love. The lightweight design combined with rugged components allow this bike to handle a wider range of terrain types like a champ.

Our Verdict: A bike that’s built solid, yet features a lightweight design that makes it easier to ride harder, and longer, you can’t beat the La Forma. This model received high marks in several areas, making it a hybrid that’s suitable for cyclists of all fitness levels. The bike’s versatility makes it suitable for moderate off-road conditions, however, it can’t handle true off-roading like a traditional mountain bike can.

Overview and Features

Considered one of the leading hybrid bikes on the market under one thousand dollars, this bike can easily handle longer commutes. The included HCT fork works to dampen vibrations when  riding over challenging terrain, providing a more comfortable, smoother ride and basically making this model incredibly versatile.

This bike comes loaded with features ranging from top of the line tires to an innovative shifting system, and Tektro brakes. Even if you don’t know how to fix bike brakes you’ll find the Tektro brakes are easy to maintain and adjust.

The beautiful high gloss paint job is sure to turn some heads, but aside from the fact that the bike is a beauty, the paint is also corrosion resistant.

If you’re desperately in need of a reliable commuter, then this hybrid is the perfect solution.

Brakes

The bike is equipped with Tektro RX1 brakes designed to provide the cyclist with all the braking power needed when riding off-road or downtown. These brakes can handle stopping short on different types of terrain and slick surfaces, so you don’t need to upgrade them in order to prepare for the winter months.

Sizes

The La Forma is available in five size options ranging from small to extra-large.

Warranty

Tommaso is so confident in their product that they offer a lifetime warranty on both the fork and frame.

Accessory Options

The frame comes with pre-drilled holes, so you can attach fenders, racks, and lights. The ability to add these extras is essential for commuters who have to ride in wet weather conditions and those who commute to and from work. Fortunately, the manufacturer offers a large selection of fenders, bike lights and baskets to choose from, so you can achieve a more custom look.

Tires

The extra-wide tires add plenty of traction and stability, so this bike can handle riding around in rainy weather with ease. This is a huge plus if you plan to use this bike for commuting purposes. The level of traction the tires provide will allow you to handle moderately rocky trails, however, the tires tend to excel at cultivated terrain.

Components

The bike comes equipped with a Shimano Groupset and crankset, and an 11-32 T cassette, all of which translates to a wide variety of gears that will give the cyclist more options in terms of where they can ride and what this bike can handle.

The Shimano shifter offers reliable and fast shifting with a display that allows the cyclist to quickly identify which gear they’re in. The rapid-fire shifters offer a smoother shifting experience. This system is simple to use and reliable, providing superior performance and maximum efficiency. The Diamondback Bicycles Insight 2 hybrid bike is a close second, but it just can’t compete with the La Forma’s top-notch performance, lightweight design, and impressive stopping power.

Frame

[ichcpt id=”43″]

When it comes to hybrids, the frame and the bike’s top speed capability are what’s most important. Made from a lightweight aluminum, and combined with the HTC fork, the La Forma is virtually unstoppable, regardless of terrain type or weather conditions.

The compact frame is also combined with flat handlebars, so the cyclist can enjoy a more comfortable, upright riding stance that helps to minimize fatigue and lower back pain.

One of the best parts about the bike’s frame design is the comfort you’ll experience, even during a long commute.

Assembly

The biggest issues cyclists had with this bike was the assembly process. This bike does not arrive assembled, at all, so what you get is a large box full of bike parts.

Considering the number of parts that must be assembled, we don’t recommend putting this bike together on your own, even though the included instructions are very detailed and well-written. Once you have the bike is assembled, you’ll still need to tune the derailleurs and the wheels, not to mention tighten all the bolts, before you can take it for a spin.

If you have no prior bike assembly experience or you’re not comfortable putting the bike together on your own, take it to a local bike shop instead and have it assembled by a pro. This will save you a lot of time and frustration.

On average, cyclists reported that it took two to three hours to assemble the bike, not including the fine-tuning that was needed.

Performance

The seasoned cyclist will have a clear idea of where they prefer to ride, while the beginner will want to explore different bike paths, routes, and terrain types. The La Forma offers the type of versatility that every cyclist is looking for, but it’s definitely a bigger win for beginners.

Whether you need a bike you can use to ride the trails and bike paths in the backcountry, or you’re searching for a dedicated commuter, this model is the best choice. The hybrid is designed to deliver everything the cyclist needs in a bike and it’s one that can help you power through a nature trail or get you up to high speeds on city streets.

Featuring twenty-seven gears with the full Shimano drivetrain, you’ll get a full range of gears that you can utilize when you’re riding trails or flat roads. You’ll fly right up a hill or race along flat terrain.  Shifting gears is very responsive and smooth.

This bike was carefully designed to be the best choice for trail riding or city street use. In terms of comfort and performance, it really delivers.

The bike’s lightweight frame design makes it the perfect bike if you’re looking for a bike that won’t quickly wear you out during a longer commute. Additionally, the wide range of gears are also what make it an ideal choice for the cyclist who commutes to and from work, or the beginner in search of a hybrid they can use to whip their body back into shape.

Dependable

Too often, hybrid bikes either offer city style riding or off-road riding, but rarely will you find a model that excels at both. Until now. This hybrid is incredibly versatile, tough, fast and designed to handle anything you throw at it. In fact, it performs just as well as some leading mountain bikes on the market, but with just the flip of a switch, it can excel at cruising the city streets as well.

A popular brand that’s very well known for its high-quality, reliable bikes, Tommaso has really outdone themselves with the La Forma. Anyone who’s in need of a bike they can use for rides around town, a model they can use for daily commutes, or a bike that handles like a mountain bike out on the trails, will love what this model has to offer.
